Breast Lift in Destin

Are you a mom who looks back fondly on a time when you had perkier breasts? Do you struggle with feeling self-conscious about your breasts that now sag after years of gaining and losing weight? Or maybe you’re a woman of a certain age that finds herself wishing her drooping breasts looked as good naked as they did fully clothed and supported by a good bra.

If you relate to any of these scenarios, breast lift surgery is the solution for creating firmer, lifted breasts — like the ones you had in your youth. A breast lift procedure creates a higher breast profile by removing excess breast tissue and skin and repositioning the nipple at a higher point on the breast.

Breast Lift & Breast Lift with Augmentation. Explained by Dr. L. Scott Ennis

Breast Lift Surgery for Firmer, Perkier Breasts

To further ensure that your fuller, perkier breasts last as long as possible, Dr. Ennis has developed and refined a new surgical technique — one that is safer and less invasive — for his combined breast augmentation with lift procedure.

Unlike previous breast lift techniques, where adequate blood supply to the tissues was a concern, Dr. Ennis’ “superior-medial pedicle” technique minimizes this risk by avoiding extensive dissection and undermining of the breast tissue. Using this technique, which preserves the blood supply and does not disrupt the nerves in the breast, Dr. Ennis is able to lift the breast with minimal dissection.

This results in a shorter, less invasive surgery and a shorter recovery period, so that you can enjoy your beautiful new breasts that much sooner!

Good Breast Lift Candidates

Wondering if breast lift surgery can meet your needs? You may be a good candidate for breast lift surgery if you have:

  1. Sagging, drooping breasts due to pregnancy, aging, genetics or other factors
  2. Downward-pointing nipples and/or enlarged, stretched areolas
  3. One breast that is at a lower position than the other
  4. No plans to get pregnant or breastfeed in the near future
  5. No plans to lose a significant amount of weight

Incisions for Breast Lift Surgery

Based on your body shape and the amount of ptosis (sagging) present in your breasts, Dr. Ennis will recommend one of three incision points to use during the breast lift procedure. Through this incision point, excess breast tissue and skin is removed and the remaining breast tissue is formed to a lifted and more pleasing shape. Dr. Ennis will discuss which incision options will be best for you, as this decision is based on the amount of skin that needs to be removed in order to adequately lift the breast.

Donut-Shaped Incision

The “donut-shaped” incision is along the outer edge of the areola, and is an ideal method for women who have enlarged areolas that they want reduced in size. This incision is also used for correction of tuberous breasts.

Lollipop Incision

The “lollipop” incision creates a circular incision around the areola that then extends vertically down the front of the breast to the breast crease, and is ideal for repositioning the nipple to a higher position on the breast mound.

Anchor Incision

The “anchor” incision is a lollipop-shaped incision with an added incision that runs vertically along the breast crease as well as under the breast. This incision is often used for breasts that have a significant amount of ptosis, as it allows for the largest amount of excess skin removal and the greatest amount of lift.

Breast Lift with Breast Augmentation

If you are one of the women who want more volume or fullness at the top of your breasts, along with making them perkier, the breast lift procedure can be combined with the breast augmentation procedure, which involves the placement of breast implants (typically under the chest muscle). Women who are unhappy with deflated or “scooped out” breasts and nipples that fall below the breast crease when left unsupported can benefit from the aesthetic effects of this combination procedure.

The Breast Lift Procedure

The breast lift procedure is usually performed on an outpatient basis and typically takes one to three hours to complete. During the procedure, excess breast skin and tissue is removed from the incision point and the remaining breast tissue and skin is then tightened to a higher, firmer position. Incisions are closed with dissolvable sutures, and the doctor places the patient in a soft bra to help support the breasts while they heal.

A scar management program will be recommended and is typically started approximately two weeks after surgery. This program will help the scars to fade quicker and achieve an optimal result!

Breast Lift Recovery

The patient will return home the day of surgery and will need someone to drive them and stay with them for the first 48 to 72 hours. It is important to rest as much as possible during that time, in order to aid the body in the healing process. The patient should be up and walking the next morning and be able to raise their arms above their head. There can be some swelling and bruising in the breast area, and the patient can expect a measure of discomfort, which they can alleviate with the pain medication prescribed by the doctor and with the range of motion exercises that will be taught to them before surgery.

It is important that the patient gets out of bed and starts walking the first day post-surgery, as it helps with swelling and stiffness. Though it is important to be mobile, the patient should avoid lifting anything over 10 pounds for at least the first two weeks. Most patients are able to return to office work and other sedentary jobs after five to seven days. Normal exercise can be resumed after approximately three weeks. Chest or back exercises can be resumed after six weeks. Dr. Ennis does not recommend taking aspirin or ibuprofen for the first week, as these medications may increase the risk of bleeding. Smoking is absolutely prohibited the few weeks before and after surgery, as it will interfere with the healing process.

The scars resulting from surgery will fade over time, and should be significantly less noticeable after three months. It may take up to a full year for scarring to fade completely. The scar management program that will be prescribed will help this process and encourage the scars to fade quicker. Keep in mind it takes a full year for a scar to fade. Most post-op photos are taken at three months after surgery, which is when the scars at are their worst.
