Think the days of having a lean, toned stomach are over? Think again! Now you can look great in a bikini — once again or for the first time — even after having children!
As a woman’s abdominal skin has been created to relax in order to accommodate pregnancy, it is easily stretched out and doesn’t have the elasticity it needs to tighten up after pregnancy. This along with a loss of muscle tone can be very frustrating to many women, both after pregnancy as well as from just getting older! Many moms can attest to the fact that the excess, hanging skin caused by pregnancy is impossible to get rid of with diet and exercise alone!

There are many reasons you may have a little more bulge on your stomach than you’d like; perhaps your metabolism isn’t what it was in your younger years, or you’ve seen the effects of pregnancy and breastfeeding on your body over time, or your genetics don’t allow for a naturally flat stomach. The most frustrating thing is that no matter how many crunches you do, you still have that stubborn pooch! That is why the tummy tuck procedure, also called abdominoplasty, is an ideal fix — because it removes the fat and loose skin from the stomach while also tightening the abdominal muscles, creating a leaner, sexier mid-section.
Some women have concerns about the scar associated with a tummy tuck, but everything is a tradeoff. Although there will be a scar, Dr. Ennis places his tummy tuck incisions very low on the abdomen, much like a C-section incision, creating a scar that is easily covered by low cut pants or a two-piece bikini. Most of the photos of tummy tuck scars on the internet show patients a few months after surgery, when the scar is still healing and remains very pink. Keep in mind that it takes a year for a scar to fade away, but the result is a nice, flat stomach — an easy tradeoff!
Over the years, Dr. Scott Ennis has performed tummy tuck surgery on thousands of women and men who wish to have a sexy, toned stomach that they can be proud of. People come from all over Florida, the U.S. and around the world to have Dr. Ennis as their tummy tuck surgeon.

If you are interested in addressing other effects of pregnancy, along with loose stomach skin, then you might want to consider a mommy makeover procedure. The mommy makeover is a combination of procedures — which can include a tummy tuck, liposuction, breast implants or breast lift — designed to restore a woman’s pre-baby body.
The tummy tuck procedure typically takes between two to three hours and involves the doctor making an incision low on the abdominal wall, similar to a C-section incision and its resulting scar. He then lifts the skin off of the abdominal muscles and tightens the muscles. Excess skin is trimmed away from the stomach, with the remaining skin is redraped over the abdominal muscles. The belly button is repositioned and sutured into place. The abdominal incision is then closed with sutures.

Immediately after surgery, patients should plan to be up and walking at least every hour, which promotes circulation and helps with swelling. For the first few days, your stomach will feel tight and it may feel like it is hard to stand up straight. By the end of the week, you will be walking upright and typically be off of narcotic pain medication. Over-the-counter medications such as ibuprofen or naproxen work well the second week but should be avoided during the first week as they may increase the risk of bleeding.
Tummy tuck patients can expect to return to office work after two weeks. They should avoid lifting anything over 10 pounds for at least six weeks following surgery. Exercise should be resumed gradually after six weeks, but heavy lifting should be avoided for three months.
Dr. Ennis has created an effective scar management program for his tummy tuck patients, which typically starts around two to three weeks after surgery. This program is tailored to each patient and their individual skin type and rate of healing. In general, it takes a full year for a tummy tuck scar to fade completely. Keep in mind that the scar is low and once it fades, it is a great tradeoff for a nice flat stomach!
